2009 PitchNOLA: Social Entrepreneurs for Change

The Social Entrepreneurs of New Orleans (SENO), together with the Tulane Entrepreneurs Association (TEA) and the Tulane Social Entrepreneurship Initiative, will host PitchNOLA: Social Entrepreneurs for Change, an "elevator pitch" competition that will take place on September 22, 2009, and  will feature 15 community members with ideas for ventures or projects that will effect positive social or environmental change in New Orleans.

The purpose of the competition is to enable people with great ideas to hone their presentation skills while simultaneously allowing the ‘pitchers’ to connect with an audience of up to 200 that will provide feedback and ideas on resources and connections for the pitchers.

The 15 ideas to be presented were chosen from 33 submissions.   They include ventures that focus on:

  • Sustainability

  • Trash reduction in our community

  •  Alternative ways of mobilizing mass evacuations

  •  Engagement of youth in networking opportunities

  •  K-12 education innovation

  •  Medical tourism

  •  Promotion of organic food consumption

  •  Workforce training, and more!

Judges will be Michael Hecht, President/CEO of GNO, Inc.: The Regional Economic Development Alliance, Flozell Daniels, President/CEO of the Louisiana Disaster Recovery Foundation and Will Bradshaw, Echoing Green Fellow and President of Green Coast Enterprises.

The audience will also play a key role in this event since each attendee will be provided with presentation feedback cards through which they’ll pass on comments/recommendations regarding the pitchers’ ideas, pitch styles and connections that could help the pitchers in advancing their projects.

The event will be held in Tulane’s Freeman Auditorium, Woldenberg Arts Center, Room 25, on September 22, 2009 from 7pm to 9pm.  Interested audience members can reserve a spot in the audience by RSVPing via http://pitchnola.eventbrite.com/.
